Artist Profile: Ben Kweller

The story of Ben’s former band Radish is another story for another day. For this episode, we’re going to focus on Ben and his New York years - his rise as a solo artist.
At the age of 19, Ben Kweller moved to New York with his girlfriend to peruse a career as a solo musician. Since, he has grown as performer, a rock star and as the writer and communicator of some killer albums.
Case in point…Kweller’s first solo release, Freak Out, It’s Ben Kweller, Sha Sha (an allmusic pick), On My Way and his most recent 2006 release entitled Ben Kweller.
The self titled Ben Kweller is a playful, soulful, insighful, coming-of-age, one man show. Kweller plays every instrument on the album and when measuring the track variety, this is a pretty impressive feat. The album is perfectly suited for a road trip with some pop (Gotta Move), lyrical poetry (Thirteen), a little rock (This is War) and a track worthy of at least one repeat, (Penny on a Train Track).
Ben Kweller is an artist that is good to get to know now - and this album is one that should be added to any collection.
Kweller is getting ready to release a new album in February 2008.
