I first got turned on to Ben Sollee when I saw him play in the Sparrow Quartet with Allison Washburn and Bela Fleck at Castle Clinton. Hailing from Louisville, KY He is a master on the cello and his new album, Learning to Bend, proves it. But it’s not just his cello skills that make him so wonderful, it’s also his lyrics and soulful vocals that complete the beautiful songs. And not to worry, he also has a sense of humor, releasing the song “Dear Kanye” a couple weeks ago that is quite funny. Oh, and also, he is only 24! He was on NPR’s World Cafe yesterday, the link to his show should be up soon. He has no plans to be in NYC again soon, but I’ll keep you posted!
