Black Lips Played Bowery, Music Hall of Williamsburg
Atlanta’s Black Lips were in town to play a couple shows, including a free show at Other Music on Monday, along with the Bowery Ballroom later that night, and then they were at the Music Hall of Williamsburg last night, where I was in attendance.
They played with Quintron & Miss Pussycat who are highly entertaining. Interesting set pieces like the front of an old car, colorful, unique costumes, and weird sound affects all provided amusing, quirky details. Their songs are fun and their dance moves are great. Perhaps the best part was for their finale they put on an elaborate puppet show about a haunted art gallery. Very cool.
The crowd was hungry for the Black Lips though and the energy changed completely when they came out. Mosh pits, crowd surfing, thrown beer cups, and spitting ensued. The Lips’ stage presence was great and their upbeat songs are awesome. Definitely a party. Check out their latest release, Good Bad, Not Evil for a fun listen.
