Caribou and F*ck Buttons Played Williamsburg Last Night

by User Imagedklein on March 28th, 2008

When I walked into the Music Hall of Williamsburg last night there was a very loud droning sound coming from the stage. So loud I could not hear myself think. It was the F*ck Buttons. The noise was unbearable, but luckily they soon got to something with a beat. They’ve been getting a lot of buzz lately, but I’m not sure I was convinced.

When Caribou aka Dan Snaith took the stage with three other band members  I was psyched. I was expecting a pretty mellow show and frankly I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to keep my eyes open since they didn’t go on until about midnight, but they blew me away. They totally rocked out and the songs from the new album lept off the stage with such force I couldn’t keep my legs from moving. The drummer was amazing, and when Snaith joined him on a second set the room shook–in a good way. The visuals playing in the background were great and added to the lively atmosphere. I had been wanting to see Caribou for years and never had and didn’t quite know what to expect, but I am happy to report they totally exceeded my expectations. I didn’t even mind the creepy drunk guy that started talking to me. Well, not as much anyway.

    Hi, Devorah,

LOL at “creepy drunk guy.” They kinda go with the territory, unfortunately–rather like cockroaches…
Looking forward to more music news from my old stomping grounds on BAMS.

Hey…Caribou is one of my favorite bands. Their albums are amazing. However, last thursdays show was kind of terrible. The junkie drunk drummer was so sloppy and had absolutely no dynamics. He was fairly selfish as he overplayed in an unbearably loud fashion. I could barely here Dan’s vocals, and the mix was rather shit. I am a die hard fan and have been trying to see them for quite some time. Unfortunately I was disappointed. When they played drums in tandem that was by far the best part I agree, but after the 7th time I wanted more electronics to go with it. Maybe next time they could do a little bit more sample triggering and have better level control. I still love them and feel like dan is a fucking genius. Oh, Fuck Buttons can go fuck themselves cause they were terrible and were just trying to rape my ears.
    Smiles,
    P.
