Check them out: MGMT
Surf/Jungle/Country
I would say more along the lines of psychedelic-electronic-pop-friendly-punk…but their description sounds much cooler.
MGMT (pronounced ‘Management’) is a quirky, ambitious, progressive duo that are on the cusp. Their segment is a tough one to crack, but MGMT are finding a way to get noticed - they’ve been ‘artist of the day’ in SPIN Magazine and have been heralded as a band to watch by Rolling Stone.
Given their sound, style and personal antics, it’s no surprise the band chose Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann for their debut, Oracular Spectacular. (The disc officially comes out in January but is available on iTunes now.)
The band is currently touring in England, but will be playing a hometown gig in Brooklyn at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 8th.
Standout tracks: Everyone digs Time to Pretend, but make sure you also give Of Moon Birds and Monsters a listen to get their psych-melody.
