Insound Acquired by Warner Music

by dklein on January 8th, 2008

According to paidcontent.org:

“The Alternative Distribution Alliance, an independent distributor owned by the Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG), has acquired Insound.com, the indie music lifestyle store, reports Billboard, for an undisclosed sum. The NYC-based site, founded in 1998, will allow ADA to use the Insound digital sales infrastructure as a back-end for its labels and indie accounts to open their own online download stores, the story says. Insound started selling only physical products via mail-order, and in October 2006 it began selling albums in MP3 format for download as well.

ADA was created in 1993 to focus on the independent music market, and has labels such as Sub Pop, Matador, Epitaph, Domino, Fueled by Ramen, Comedy Central, Touch and Go, Beggars Music Group, Saddle Creek and Side One/Dummy.”

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m depressed. I’ve always been a fan of buying music from Insound, and I’m not saying I won’t now that they are no longer indie…but it’s not really such a good feeling anymore. Maybe I should go buy some Warner stock…
