Interpol at MSG and in Rolling Stone

It’s crazy to me that Interpol has never played MSG, seeing as how they are from New York and have a such a huge following. I’m not saying it’s ‘crazy’ in a bad way.
I mean the opposite.
It’s amazing that they’ve been able to keep playing good venues and smaller gigs in their hometown. I guess more shows back to back in smaller venues brings in the same cake as a big venue, but delivers 10 times more experience to the audience.
I dig that.
Anyway, they’re playing MSG on September 14th and tickets are on sale.

Interpol’s Paul Banks has a pretty cool interview in Rolling Stone this month. If you go to the interview online there is some cool audio as well.
I really took the part about him not being able to pick up the guitar and wow a crowd with campfire sing-a-long tunes, because he only knows originals. Check it out.

5 opinions for Interpol at MSG and in Rolling Stone

Mike, you should also note that this show has some of the better openers you will ever see for a show with Cat Power and Liars!!!!!!!!! Definitely worth going to an arena and spending big bucks on. Almost as good as the Blonde Redhead, Le Savy Fav, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire extravaganza!

Personally, I like shows at smaller venues best. I’ve never seen a very memorable large show. (by a newer band anyhow). But I have seen larger bands at tiny places, like Faith No More and Janes where they were so close you could touch them — not that I did because (rude). But it really adds to the sound and the vibe when bands play small. I like it.

Duh, I almost forgot but also meant to say that your Van Morrison tee shirt picture rocked. I love black and whites — tell whoever took that that they did a stellar job :)

Thanks Jennifer. Yeah I love black and white pics…and I love the shirt…Van is the man.
Catching bands at smaller venues is always a great experience. I practiced for years, trying to catch bands on the first or second tour because they would not only play small venues, but very cool small venues. 7 times out of 10, the band wouldn’t ever blow up into something big, but I have many great stories of seeing awesome bands in some sweet venues playing for like 50 people. Those are the shows I remember best.
