Kimya Dawson Played Sound Fix Last Night

I meant to post this before it happened, but I forgot. Oops. But I did go last night and it was great. At first it seemed like my friend and I wouldn’t get in–there was a line around the block!–but we decided to go into the store to get some new cds anyway (Hello new Magnetic Fields album!). Just as we were about to leave, someone came out and announced that because so many people couldn’t get in, Kimya agreed to play another show on Monday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. (So now you all have a chance to go!). Then, Kimya herself proceeded to come around with a clipboard taking people’s names to make sure they would get in. How sweet is that? But, after realizing we couldn’t make it next week, we decided to take our chances and try to duck in after going to the bathroom. Worked like a charm. The stupid/funny thing was it wasn’t even that crowded! There was plenty of room in the back. I guess they have some fire safety codes to keep up with or something…but it was still weird.

Anyway, on to the show. Kimya was adorable and talkative, playing songs from various albums, including the new Juno soundtrack, which she put together, as well as a forthcoming album for babies. It was great to see her doing so well and it is awesome that she is getting so much attention from the success of Juno. She even took a few requests from the audience, and was encouraging people to sing along. All in all, a joyful evening!
