The final show at Central Park’s Summerstage has been announced: Dinosaur Jr. will be playing and The Walkmen will open for them. And, it’s FREE! Dinosaur Jr.’s new album Farm comes on June 23. It seems like only a distant memory when they were broken up….(from 1997-2005)

Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., and Built to Spill at Terminal 5

Three giants of the nineties played two nights at Terminal 5 on Thursday and Friday: Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., and Built to Spill. I was at the show on Friday and much to my disappointment I missed the Meat Puppets who went on at 7:30 p.m. I did see all of Dinosaur Jr.’s set, who were excellent. But the real thrill for me was seeing Built to Spill perform their seminal album Perfect From Now On. They played the album all the way through with excellent jams and Doug Martsch wailing perfectly. After they finished they played a few more favorites, like “The Plan” and “Carry the Zero.” The best part of the night was when J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and members of the Meat Puppets came out on stage to play with Built to Spill for almost 30 minutes. They all seemed to be enjoying themeselves immensely, especially the Meat Puppet boys who were joking around a lot. Not sure what happened to Lou Barlow…I guess he had to head out early. Lots more photos after the jump. Read more

ATP Coming to NY

May 7, 2008 by Devorah Klein

All Tomorrow’s Parties, which has curated amazing festivals for the past eight years, is finally bringing a lineup to New York–and it’s amazing. It’s curated by My Bloody Valentine (who have just announced a full-blown tour) and ATP and takes place Sept. 19-21. The weird thing is that it’s upstate in the Catskills at Kutscher’s Country Club–an old Catskills standby from the bygone days. Here’s the lineup:

THE DRONES
BUILT TO SPILL PERFORMING PERFECT FROM NOW ON

There’s Dinosaur Jr. and J. Mascis and the Fog, but there is also Witch, J. Mascis’ gloomier and doomier newer band. Their new album Paralyzed is coming our March 18 and they’ll be in Brooklyn on March 19 at Luna Lounge with Graveyard, a Swedish 70s throwback band. You can get tickets here.
