Wondering what Ryan Adams’ favorite album of 2008 is? Or maybe you want to know Chromeo’s choice for Best New Artist? Filter Magazine asked some of this year’s top artists to name their Top Ten and will be releasing a selection every week in December. Here’s who they have out so far:
From the 19 lists featured this week, Santogold’s self-titled debut record emerged victorious as the most popular album, landing placement on six of the lists with MGMT, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend tying for a close second, hitting five of them. How will they fare in the long-run? Only the weeks will tell. Scope all of our first week’s featured lists above, and check back daily for more updates!
Ladytron Played Terminal 5
June 26, 2008 by Devorah Klein
England-based electropop band Ladytron lit up (literally) Terminal 5 last night. Openers Datarock got the good vibe started with their high energy and matching track suits. But Ladytron took over handily from there. Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo’s vocals were entrancing as usual and the beats were highly conducive to dancing. The audience was psyched to be there and danced and whooped all night, but thankfully everyone was pretty respectful of personal space–not somethinig I’m used to at a Terminal 5 show. They played songs from their new album Velocifero, including single “Ghost” and “Runaway,” as well as some older hits like “Seventeen” and “Destroy Everything You Touch.”

Ladytron Drops New Album, Touring

Ladytron are back, following up Witching Hour with Velocifero which is out now and let me tell you, it is quite delectable. It still has the electro vibe, but the vocals and harmonies are more refined and emotional and the music cuts to a deeper level. Produced by Vicarious Bliss from Ed Banger and Alessandro Cortini who has worked with Nine Inch Nails, the new album oversteps boundaries and provides a marvelous musical landscape for the listener.
