Willamsburg Waterfront and Bruar Falls

March 30, 2009 by Devorah Klein

There are two new music venues opening in Williamsburg. The first is Bruar Falls, a new bar/venue owned by the folks that own Cake Shop and Library Bar. It’s at 245 Grand St. in Williamsburg. They had a soft opening this weekend, but have a pretty full schedule coming up:

Apr 1 - POW WOW (9pm) ATTACHED HANDS [fl] (10pm), WHITE HINTERLAND [dead oceans](11pm) + DJ AMANDA CHOUETTE BROOKLYN
Apr 3 - DUCHESS SAYS
Apr 4 GRAND OPENING with SECRET GUEST (Chairlift???)
Apr 5 2009 5:00P MASSHYSTERI [sweden], GUILTY FACES, WHITE WORK/ALL AGES
Apr 23 - CHILD ABUSE, EZEE TIGER [sf] and BOLONGANI [SF, ex paik]
Apr 27 - THE GOODNITE LOVING
May 6 - MUTATORS and MODERN CREATURES
May 10 - PWRFL POWER, BR’ER [pa] and CAP LORI
Jun 11 - L MAGAZINE PRESENTS NORTHSIDE FEST
Jun 12 - L MAGAZINE PRESENTS NORTHSIDE FEST
Jun 13 - L MAGAZINE PRESENTS NORTHSIDE FEST
Jun 14 - L MAGAZINE PRESENTS NORTHSIDE FEST
Jun 14 - CANADIAN RIFLE, TEENAGE NIGHTWAR

The second is a replacement for the hipster summer haven McCarren Park Pool (which is now being turned back into a pool). The Williamsburg Waterfront will take over as one of the premier places to see free and ticketed outdoor shows in the summer. The New York Times reports:

Stephanie Thayer, executive director of the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn, a nonprofit group that coordinated last year’s concerts, said that a strip along the East River between North Eighth and North Ninth Streets that was designated a New York State park a few years ago will have concerts this summer, with room for 6,000 fans.

Thayer adds that she will work with promoters who did shows at McCarren Park Pool, but she would like to have classical and opera there as well. Can’t wait to see the lineup!

Matt & Kim and the Breeders at McCarren

July 14, 2008 by Devorah Klein

 cimg3667.JPG

Yesterday was a beautiful day at McCarren Park Pool for one of JellyNYC’s Pool Parties. Matt & Kim were awesome and enthusiastic as always, bringing out Rude Mechanical Orchestra to play with them on their last few songs, ending with “Yea Yeah.”

cimg3678.JPG

The Breeders finally came on around 5:30 p.m. and were great as well. They played a great mix of old and new, getting to some of my old favorites like “I Just Wanna Get Along” and “No Aloha.” Definitely check out their new album Mountain Battles if you haven’t yet.

More photos after the jump!
